A quick catch-up

Image
Yes again its ages since I've blogged but I have been busy with another OU module which is now finished with the final assignment submitted.  John has gone off to Teesside University to study art.  Work has been extremely busy with the start of a new term, can't believe it'll be Christmas soon. A bit more up to date we've just had a good weekend.  On Saturday we went to the Spooky Spectacular fireworks display at Newcastle Racecourse.   http://www.metroradio.co.uk/spooky-spectacular-2011-event-information/ . The highlight of the weekend for Alan was his Rally Experience at Chris Birkbeck Rally school  http://www.gorallyschool.co.uk/ .  We had a lovely lunch and the weather stayed fine and sunny, I even braved a demonstration drive as well. I'll try and come back again soon, bye for now.

Home Grown

This little lot never made it onto our dinner plates as we have been picking at them every time we go into the kitchen. I do like growing my own veg but yields can be a little on the low side as I don't really give them my full attention. Maybe when I retire I'll manage to invest more time and effort into it. Mammograms

I was tidying up folders on my pc today and came across this piece dated February 2002.  It is very funny and having had my first mammogram a few months ago I can see similarities but on a whole I am wondering if technology has moved on a little bit.   Many women are afraid of their first mammogram, and even if they have had them before, there is fear. But there is no need to worry.  By taking a few minutes each day for a week preceding the exam and doing the following practice exercises, you will be totally prepared for the test, and best of all, you can do these simple practice exercises right in your home. EXERCISE 1: Open your refrigerator door, and insert one breast between the door and the main box.  Have one of your strongest friends slam the door shut as hard as possible and lean on the door for good measure.  Hold that position for five seconds.  Repeat in case the first time wasn't effective. EXERCISE 2: Visit your garage at 3 a.m. when the temperature of the cement fl

Procrastinating

So I just wrote a nice little blog about how I am procrastinating and then managed to lose it.  Sometimes I'm not very bright!

Spring has Sprung

I went down the potting shed on Sunday in search of something to store my seed potatoes in.  I'd bought three lots on the Saturday, first earlies, second earlies and main crop.  Now I don't know where to store the second earlies and main crop, they need to be kept in a cool light place.  The first earlies are currently in egg boxes in the kitchen where I am hoping they will chit nicely.  The other two sets are sitting in the dining room but they can't stay there permanently.  I will continue to ponder this problem as last year I kept them in the dark in the potting shed, but that produced long white roots which is not good. My sortie down the garden tempted me to do a bit of weeding around the potting shed and in last year's cabbage/broccoli patch.  I started to turn over the new vegetable patch but that required a bit more back breaking work, although it is turning over nicely.  I'm not impatient about creating new borders, I cover an area of lawn with cardboard

I wasn't sorry to say goodbye to 2010

I’m not a very prolific blogger am I? I just realised that it is nearly five months since I wrote anything. The main reasons for this being that I was very busy at work during October, November and December, as well as trying to keep up with my Open University coursework. I was really looking forward to my Christmas holiday and finished work on 17 December. My dad had not been well, he has a bone infection in his jaw, and because he was in a lot of pain it was decided that we wouldn’t go down for Christmas. This turned out to be a good decision as I started to feel unwell during the first week of my holiday. We also had a few domestic incidents which stressed me out. The fridge deciding to stop working would not have been an issue if we had been away for Christmas, but was a bit inconvenient with a turkey crown and other temperature sensitive foods to keep cool. The boiler breaking down would have been a complete disaster to come home to if we had been away as it leake
